Take the ferry across Table Bay to Robben Island, the former prison island where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for 18 of his 27 years in prison. Tours are often led by former political prisoners, giving you a first-hand account of the struggle against apartheid that you won't find in any textbook.

Rules & Requirements

You must bring your original South African ID or passport to board the ferry — no digital copies are accepted.
Ferries are weather-dependent. If a crossing is cancelled due to sea conditions, we'll offer a partial refund or an alternative city activity.
Please arrive at the Nelson Mandela Gateway at least 30 minutes before departure — ferries leave on schedule.
The island tour includes a bus ride and moderate walking; let us know in advance if you need mobility assistance.
